Huge crowds expected to say fond farewell to beloved Christy this morning

As he wished, the late Christy Dignam, Aslan frontman died at home on Tuesday last. Since then, his profile, music career, health and personal challenges have dominated both online and print media.

Today, his funeral service expected to draw celebrity figures from the across the entertainment spectrum. Thousands are expected to line the streets to say farewell to the 63-year-old who has endeared himself to generations of Irish music lovers, and not just for his song writing and stage prescence but also for his candidness on speaking about child abuse, addictions and dealing with amyloidosis and health problems.

Christy’s Funeral will take place this morning, beginning with a farewell gathering on Farnham Drive, Finglas (opposite Erins Isle) followed by a private Funeral Service. His funeral cortege will arrive at the junction of Tolka Valley Road and Cardiffsbridge Road at 9.45am and proceed (driving) along the following route. 

It will run left onto Cardiffsbridge Road, to arrive at 9.50am to pause at the green area opposite Coláiste Íde before continuing on to Mellowes Road towards Finglas Garda Station, then turn right before Garda Station onto Finglaswood Road and then left onto Cappagh Road pausing at St Fergal’s BNS.Right onto Patrick’s Well Place.

The cortege will turn left onto Wellmount Road., then right onto Farnham Drive.Arrive at Playing field opposite Erin’s Isle GAA Club to pause for a Video Tribute to be played. Depart Erin’s Isle at 10.15am (approx.) 

A private funeral service will take place privately thereafter.

He is survived by his beloved wife Kathryn, his darling daughter Kiera, grandchildren Cian, Ava and Jake, son-in-law Darren Moran, sisters and brothers Bernadette, Deirdre, James, Brian, Therese, Jackie and Eddie, extended family, fellow Aslan members, neighbours, friends and all who knew and loved him.
