Charlie Bird reveals heartbreaking Motor Neurone Diagnosis

Well-known journalist and television presenter Charlie Bird has confirmed on Twitter that he has Motor Neurone Disease.

The former RTE reporter explained on social media: “Recently I spoke about issues with my voice. I now know why. I have been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease”.

The 72-year-old Dubliner retired nine years ago after 38 years on the RTE staff. He worked his way up from being initially a researcher to become chief news and later Washington Correspondents in the organisation.

According to RTE, his last broadcast was on SundayAugust, 26  2012 when he present the Marian Finucane Show on RTÉ radio 1
