Christmas and New Year can be joyful as families celebrate together but the excessive eating, gifting and partying also puts pressure on financially strapped families.

The voluntary sector such as the St Vincent de Paul and similar charities, along with homeless charities came to the aid of many in the run up to Christmas and over the holiday period.

Castleknock was not found wanting either as three nights of ‘Carols on The Green’ was hosted to raise funds for the Croí Mháire Food Bank in Dublin 15.

And the community was excessively generous in supporting the local fundraiser.

Ellen Troy, Aontú LEA Rep for Castleknock said “It was a beautiful community effort , everyone was in good form and the true spirit of Christmas was evident as people generously donated non-perishable foods for the Croí Mháire Foodbank.

“We were absolutely delighted to be able to collect for them, they are a much deserving operation and do tremendous work. I would truly like to thank the people of Castleknock who were so kind, and to all who participated in, and hosted the collection event.”
