September 11 should have been a special day for Stacey Maughan and Michael Fagan, a date they had planned to celebrate their wedding day with children Brody (8), Zac (3) and baby Remi.
Sadly, before welcoming their baby daughter Remi-Belle in April last, the couple were devastated to learn that Remi would be born with a complex, congenital heart defect and a chromosomal condition – 22q deletion syndrome (Di George Syndrome).
This meant Remi required immediate intensive medical care after her birth.
For the past five months, wee Remi has spent the majority of time under the care of the amazing staff at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
Her fighting spirit has shone through and Remi has overcome many battles but has recently been discharged home under the care of the palliative team.
Remi cannot undergo the life-saving cardiac surgery she requires due to the complexity of her diagnosis.
Stacey, a qualified general nurse and Michael, a personal trainer, are now Remi’s full- time carers due to her life-limiting condition. Neither can return to work – every moment with Remi is precious.

At the time the couple had planned their wedding celebrations, Remi was battling sepsis and had been resuscitated several times.
The couple, who live in Cabra, made the decision to cancel as they wanted all three children present at the celebrations.
Stacey’s childhood friends Melissa Fitzpatrick and Denise Dillon decided to launch a GoFundMe fundraiser to aid the couple’s rescheduling of the wedding nuptials!
“We are hoping they will be able to reorganise the wedding for January next year and hence, we set up the fundraiser,” said Melissa. “We all grew up on Pearse Street together, and we’d love to see Stacey and Michael host their special day, and to cherish the memories as a family of five.
“They so want all three children with them on their wedding day, so we would greatly appreciate any donations to help us give them their special day together, it’s no less than they deserve!”

“Any little donation would be appreciated,” said Melissa. “They are amazing parents. Last weekend, they celebrated Brody’s first holy communion. But we’d love to see them all together for their big day too.”
