A football match aimed at raising funds for a recently established charity in Ballyfermot was a huge success, a local councillor said.
The charity football match between Ballyfermot United parents versus the coaches aimed to raise funds for HOME.
HOME, which stands for Helping Others Move Everyday, was set up in response to a high number of suicides in the Ballyfermot and Cherry Orchard areas in the last few months.
Councillor Daithi Doolan (SF) said that the match was a huge success, and he is looking forward to the next event to be held in support of HOME.
Cllr. Daithi Doolan said:”The football match was a huge success. It helped raise much needed funds for HOME but it also served to give support to those families who recently lost a loved and raise awareness about suicide.
“The generosity shown belt this community was truly moving and inspiring.Our next event will the HOME festival of hope. This will take place in The Lawns Park on September 8th. We look forward to huge crowds at this family friendly fun event, celebrating all that’s good about Ballyfermot.”
HOME also thanked everyone who took part on Facebook, saying that the group were ‘overwhelmed with emotion’ by the support received.
The final score of the match saw the Ballyfermot United parents win 10 to the Coaches’ 5 points.
Speaking about the event, Ballyfermot United said that there were no losers on the day as funds were raised for the new charity.
“It was a great turn out from both sides and the amount on the sideline shown how important this new Charity organisation HOME is going to be for our community,” the team posted on Facebook.
“People flocked to the game and made donations that will help so many people in Ballyfermot and the surrounding areas. We hope that this is the beginning of both HOME and Ballyfermot United working together in the future for the good of the community we all love.”
