A Do Not Swim Prohibition Notice has been issued today for Front Strand Balbriggan for effective 6 days.

Balbriggan Front Strand – prohibition notice Do Not Swim issued this week

Front Strand remains open but beach users are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notice as it has been put in place to ensure that the health of bathers is not compromised.

The issue of pollution at Balbriggan has been an ongoing issue for years, with regular swimming ban notices issued during the June to September annual swimming season. Groups like SOS Dublin Bay, BASS and SOS have formed to highlight the ongoing issues at the Front Strand.

On Saturday next, June 17, a peaceful protest will be hosted by SOS (Save our Sea). People are asked to meet at the Martello Tower, Malahide at 10am. All welcome to attend.

An end of incident sample will be arranged from Balbriggan before the prohibition notice will be reviewed.

Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
