Irish art lovers will have the unique chance to get their hands on 100 pieces of original artwork for €100 each when Art Source opens its doors at the RDS next month.
Over 15,000 people are expected to attend the year’s biggest and most exciting art show from November 10-12, which will feature 200 of the best in contemporary Irish and international artists and galleries.
Among the top artists exhibiting are Tom Byrne and David McGlynn, who have had their work bought by Hollywood stars Elizabeth Banks and Amy Adams.
The centrepiece of the fair will be a spectacular sculpture made from recycled Boeing 707 parts and honouring the Irish inventor of the modern submarine.
A call from the local recycling business about dumped aviation parts gave acclaimed industrial designer Shane Holland the inspiration for the aero-marine sculpture to honour his ancestor John Phillip Holland.
Continuing the underwater theme, Hey Bulldog, who produce stunning interior pieces inspired by The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine animated film, will be showing unique psychedelic tufted wall hangings as part of their collection at Art Source.
“Art Source offers visitors the opportunity to purchase a one-off affordable original artwork to make their home unique and also the opportunity to meet the artists and hear about their work,” said show organiser, Patrick O’Sullivan.
“The event is where the industry meets to see what is going on in the Irish art world, and this year is our biggest yet, with the widest range of art styles anywhere in Ireland.
“The reason the show is growing so much is the quality of the exhibitors. Irish people are interested in arts and culture at heart, and, once they see it, many people make a point of returning to the fair annually.”
A sporting challenge has spurred a Dublin boat fitter-turned artist to perfect the creation of a showstopping stainless steel rugby ball which will be showcased at the fair.
A visitor approached Grant MacEwan at last year’s Art Source and asked him whether he could create the mythical ball using his steel working skills.
Often compared to Andy Warhol, Irish artist Orla Walsh will be bringing a new collection of iconic Brown Thomas bags to Art Source – a series that had to be held back after a serious injury to her husband.
The 100 pieces of original art work for €100 runs on a first come, first served basis from participating artists when Art Source opens on Friday November 10.
