ALONE, the national charity that helps older people to age at home, is once again collaborating with Andy Kenny, Firtree.ie and Fitzgeralds The Homestead pub in Cabra to give older people living in ALONE’s Willie Bermingham Place some Christmas trees and Christmas dinners.

This is a great part of ALONE’s Christmas campaign over the years and the charity is delighted to be able to support residents with this offering. This year 20 trees will be delivered to older people.

This is off the back of the charity launching its Christmas campaign, Share Your Warmth at the at the end of November, with ALONE attempting to focus attention on the near 100,000 older people who are living in poverty this Christmas and their need to raise money for Support Services for older people to help them age well at home.

Andy Kenny, co-ordinator of the Christmas tree deliveries, said “Every December my volunteers and I really look forward to this day.  It’s something most people would take for granted but means so much to the residents.  Seeing their smiles and excitement, makes it all worthwhile. This year we are delighted to have members of the Ukrainian Crisis Centre lend their support.”

ALONE CEO Seán Moynihan commented, “We really appreciate Firtree.ie and Andy Kenny who have once again provided this wonderful offering. Christmas trees are a central part of the festivities and represent the good feelings and memories around Christmas. It is great to be able to offer this to some of our older people who may otherwise not put up a tree or may not even have access to a Christmas tree. We know that everything that we do, big and small, has a massive impact on the people we work with. We are looking to Share the Warmth with those who need a bit more in their lives.”

Trees are all supplied free of charge by firtree.ie, decorations funded by Terraglen Residential Care Services and likewise dinners by The Homestead Bar in Cabra, Dublin 7.

ALONE is also encouraging anyone to contact us to refer an older person or to get some support for themselves on our National Support & Referral line 0818 222 024.
