ALDI is to cut the price of 170 seasonal products as households and families gear up for Christmas, writes Rachel Cunningham.

Ahead of the busy Christmas period, prices are being reduced on a range of festive favourites including fresh Irish turkeys, fruit and vegetables, specially selected wines, as well as across ALDI’s extensive range of frozen party food. The move will save consumers an additional €2m over the Christmas period.

ALDI has already lowered the prices of almost 300 products in the past few months. Its latest move sees a range of unbeatable price cuts, such as 20% off a selection of wines, 30% off soft drinks, up to 45% off zero zero alcohol products and prices slashed on fresh Irish turkeys also.

The retailer is set to sell over 60,000 fresh turkeys to Irish shoppers from 20th December this year. ALDI predicts it will also sell more than 80,000 units of beef dripping roast potatoes, an estimated 125,000 dessert puddings as well as almost 500,000 boxes of mince pies in the lead up to Christmas day.

Prices for Christmas dinner staples such as rooster potatoes, sprouts and carrots have also been cut by up to 75%, meaning households can enjoy even more of their favourite festive products without having to break the bank.

Colin Breslin, Managing Director of Buying & Services, ALDI Ireland, said: “While we have already introduced a number of price cuts on essential household items throughout the year, we understand that the Christmas period can be a difficult time financially for many families.”

In the run-up to Christmas, ALDI is also extending its opening hours, opening from 8am during Christmas weekend to give shoppers more time to pick up last-minute food, drink, and gifts before Christmas.

It’s good news for late shoppers also, with opening hours extended until 11pm on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd. Stores will also be open until 7pm on Christmas Eve, but customers should check local store details online to avoid disappointment, available at
