ESB’s Georgian House Museum, Dublin

SINN FEIN TD Aengus O Snodaigh has called for the ESB to gift the Georgian House Museum to the State.

The party’s spokesman on Gaeilge, the Gaeltacht, Arts and Culture has written to the ESB’s chief executive calling for the move.

Last week the ESB’s application to replace the historic Georgian building on Fitzwilliam Street Lower with three luxury apartments was refused.

In his letter Deputy O Snodaigh states: “I am writing to you… as a proud Dubliner who has campaigned for years to preserve our city’s diversity and wealth of built heritage…”

He adds: “The decision by Dublin City Council to refuse planning permission to the proposal to gut the museum and convert it into three luxury apartments is welcome news for the city of Dublin…”

He adds that the museum closure was only ever meant to be temporary – urging the ESB to “do the right thing” and gift the museum and the property to the State.
