Anyone who watched the Late Late Toy Show last Friday had their heart captured by aspiring astronaut Adam King from Co. Cork, and his adorable ‘A Hug For U’ sign.

Adam won the hearts of the nation during his segment on the annual show, saying he held the sign to offer a virtual hug to those he couldn’t touch physically due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, a mural of Adam’s sign has appeared in the city centre, designed and created by artist Cerys Murphy.

Painted on the former site of the Bernard Shaw pub in Portobello, it’s a replica of the sign Adam held on the show, reminding Dubliners of the heart warming moment and the six-year-old’s positive outlook.

Speaking to RTE about the mural, Cerys said that ‘there was just something about Adam when he came on [the Toy Show] with that sign’.

“When I saw Adam coping with his little sign, I felt my heart skip a beat. It’s just a small gesture in a big world of chaos that a small child has told us to think,” Cerys said.
