Two men and a woman punched and kicked a man in a drunken brawl outside a kebab shop after he made a derogatory remark about the woman’s weight.

Natalie Mulligan, 33, of Columbanus Estate, Mark Connolly, 25, of St Columbanus Road, and Stephen McNamee, 25, of Mulvey Park – all Dundrum – pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Rathgar Road, Rathmines on April 24, 2018.

The assaults took place around 2.30am after the victim Paul O’Kelly approached Mulligan who was standing outside a pub eating a kebab. Mr O’Kelly made “a derogatory comment related to her weight and her eating a kebab”.

There was some “pushing and shoving” and the victim ran off after Mulligan’s cousin Connolly and her boyfriend McNamee came out of the pub and joined in the fracas.

He had reached the car park of Rathmines garda station when Connolly punched him in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground.

CCTV footage showed O’Kelly, a graphic designer, falling to the ground and the three defendants attacking him as he lay on the ground. He needed surgery to his hand as a result of the assault.

Judge Karen O’Connor adjourned sentencing to October for finalisation of sentence.
