The National Maternity Hospital (NMH) Foundation has welcomed Mary Rose Burke as Chair of the Board of Directors, writes Rachel Cunningham.

The announcement coincides with the NMH Foundation #NMHWomensHealthResearch campaign for International Women’s Day 2023.

Mary Rose is the Chief Executive Officer of Dublin Chamber, which represents over 1,300 businesses throughout the Greater Dublin region. She is a pharmacist and previously served as a council member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland.

The NMH has stated that she is ideally positioned to galvanise the considerable strengths of the Volunteer Board of Directors to deliver the NMH Foundation purpose, which is to help NMH patients thrive, arrive and survive.

“I am delighted to welcome Mary Rose to the NMH Foundation at this crucial time. The National Maternity Hospital is a voluntary hospital and since 1894 women have come to Holles Street to receive expert and compassionate care for themselves and their families.

“Mary Rose joins us at a time when we have ambitious plans to advance healthcare for women and babies through engaging partners and funding for research and innovation. The NMH is a research active hospital and the breakthroughs we are making and will continue to make will have an impact for women for generations to come,” said Shane Higgins, Master of the NMH.
