The funeral mass for the late Richard Grogan drew a large attendance yesterday at the Church of St Thérése in Mount Merrion. Mourners heard an emotional but fitting tribute to the late TikTok legal sensation by his wife Mary and son James, who spoke with great pride and humour of his late father.

An employment solicitor by profession, the late Richard Grogan, became the most unlikely Tiktok sensation during the duration of Covid restrictions and amassed a great following.

His son described him as being a man who adored his work in the legal field, who took pride in his social media success and took on his battle against illness with the same veracity.

His father, said James, had three loves in his life: family, the law and golf! And despite his illness, the Mount Merrion solicitor worked until last Friday, a few days only before he died on Tuesday, November 22 in the care of St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Dublin.

Sadly, he even phoned in to the office on Tuesday to say regrettably, he wouldn’t be on Wednesday, such was his commitment and loyalty to his staff, of whom he held in high regard.

Describing the late Richard as a wonderful husband and father, James humorously stated he would probably want to know what hits/likes his last video got.

His father, claimed James adored his wife Mary and owned much of his success was down to her. Father and son had a good relationship where Richard loved to tell James of his legal successes or controversy.

And given the many frequent ‘performances’/talks he gave on radio shows, and the increasing success of his TikTok videos, there was always much to report.

Richard’s wife Mary then borrowed a few lines from Bridget Jones’ Diary the film: “To adapt the words from the film… it’s just that it’s the most terrible pity for Ireland to lose such a great brain, to lose one of our top people.”

The family further thanked all “who supported and engaged with Richard on his social media. He got great enjoyment from these interactions, thank you.”

The late Richard’s social media stated: “Richard Grogan-.The Firm are recognised as leading Employment and Personal Injury Law Solicitors, plain speaking, straight talking. Solutions our approach.”

He proudly accepted his Lawyer of the Year Award at this year’s Irish Law Awards in October last.

Successful in life and love, in his profession and he even became a TikTok sensation.

The late Richard Grogan, rest in peace. He is survived by his wife Mary, son James, daughter in law Lisa, grandson Ollie, mother-in-law Chris, his sister Claire, aunts Terry and Aine, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, legal colleagues and a wide circle of friends.
