Skerries Fire Station marked the retirement of Sub Officer Joe Scully last month, following 35 years of service to his local community of Skerries and the wider North County Dublin.

Although Joe retired in 2020, this was the first opportunity since COVID19 to get the two retained stations of Skerries and Balbriggan together, with district station of Swords also attending to celebrate his extraordinary service in Dublin Fire Brigade.

As a retained on-call officer Joe managed medical, trauma, fire and emergency incidents, responding by pager when tasked by the Eastern Regional Control Centre.

His experience and local knowledge were vital to the resolution of thousands of incidents/call-outs in the wider area.

Dublin Fire Brigade said: “His commitment as a member of our retained service, as with all our firefighters and officers in the retained service, to carry a pager and to be able to respond in a timely fashion to the station has to be commended.

“We would like to wish Joe and Francis a long and happy retirement.”
