Sunday last saw the return of the first Griffith Avenue Mile for the first time since 2019.
Hosted by the All Hallows Area Association and Marino Athletics Club, the event saw a record 1,500 runners of all abilities participate along Dublin’s Griffith Avenue (D15) and many in record time.
Fresh from representing Ireland in the European Athletics Championships in Munich the male and female races were won by Hiko Tonosa Haso and Michelle Finn respectively. Tonosa Haso, who featured in the 10,000m final in Munich, won in a time of 4:08 with two-time Olympian Finn setting a new course record in 4:35.
A post-race event was held in DCU All Hallows with the support of Dublin City University and attended by Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy, DCU Daire Keogh and other dignitaries.
The Griffith Avenue Mile is a community led, not-for-profit event organised by a team of volunteers from Marino Athletics Club and the All Hallows Area Association in partnership with Athletics Ireland and supported by DCU, 123.ie, Dublin City Council, Greystar and many local sponsors without whom the event would not be possible.
