Gloria Estefan has always had a true connection with Dublin having celebrated her own daughters second birthday in a Dublin pub years ago at a time when she recalls a thriving music industry and musicians at every corner.

A week ago, she sent a very special message of support to the Dublin Gazette endorsing its support of the Local Dublin community and its return to print.

Our digital media production team caught up with Gloria via Zoom in Miami where she talks about how her new album Brazil 305 got its name, her new Netflix documentary, her spirituality, falling in love and her love of Dublin.

In it, she recalls fond memories of visiting the city centre and her desire to return with her grandson someday in the future.

Special guest, and close friend of Gloria, joining the interview was Dubliner celebrity makeup artist Kevin Murnane.

Without giving too much away, this is an uplifting interview of friendship, creativity from Miami to Dublin and an honest journey.

The whole conversation serves as one of the first Dublin Gazette podcasts which will be available later this week.

Lockdown meant the postponement of Gloria’s Broadway musical “On Your Feet” at the Bord Gais theatre – for now.

Her upbeat humour and passion for positivity is infectious and her “Put on Your Mask” parody of one of her biggest hits shows her support for the Covid effort.

At a time when connectedness, friendship and having a united front is key Gloria reached out to Dublin and her fans in Ireland in a show of solidarity, through Dubliner Kevin Murnane and at a time when small or large gestures are very appreciated.

We may be globally disconnected but Gloria and Kevin prove distance is never an obstacle.
