Freecycle – A global movement now available locally

Globally, there are thousands of local groups representing millions of members – people helping people and ‘changing the world, one gift at a time’ through using Freecycle services.

By giving freely with no strings attached, members of the Freecycle Network help to instil a sense of generosity of spirit as they strengthen local community ties and promote environmental sustainability and reuse. The existence of Facebook has facilitated these contacts being made.

In line with their aim to foster and promote environmental projects, Castleknock Tidy Towns (CTT) set up Castleknock Freecycle in October ’22, also on Facebook, where people who have items they no longer want or need, can give it away to other local people.

Castleknock Freecycle is generating great community spirit by residents sharing with each other – instead of unwanted or unused items going to landfill or into the bin, the goods can be passed on via the FB page, to be used by others. The giver and the receiver benefit, along with the environment!

Some items offered are of high value and in excellent condition and other items are older but still worthwhile. Recently listed items include coffee tables, chairs, rugs, children’s toys, sofas, pianos, books, records, light fittings, cameras, etc. They all fulfil the purpose of Freecycle – to recycle, repurpose and reduce landfill. With a growing membership of over 1,600 local people doing their bit, Castleknock is becoming more sustainable.

If you are living in Castleknock or nearby, join the Castleknock FreeCycle Membership Facebook Page

Feel good giving and receiving while reusing items and reducing landfill.
