Dundrum Town Centre will be home to a Dundrum on ice this Christmas, despite objections from a local resident.

The town centre had received planning permission for the ice skating rink from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in September. The permission was granted for three years across a 17-week period, October to January, on a location based close to Dundrum Town Centre.

Local resident, David Cooper, had lodged an appeal with An Bord Pléanála last month, which would have shut down the operation of the ice-rink until the time of a decision made by An Bord Pléanála in the new year.

Mr Cooper, who was the sole objector to the scheme, has since withdrawn the appeal, enabling the Hammerson-owned business to proceed with the ice-skating rink this Christmas season.

Based on Dundrum Main Street, Mr Cooper had expressed concern about the noise level of the ice rink in previous year. The rink is permitted to operate between 9am and 9pm daily, in line with conditions set by the council.

Ray Ryan, BMA Planning, made a submission on behalf of Dundrum Retail GP DAC, which stated that the operators will take “every appropriate step” to ensure that there are no impacts on adjoining residential and commercial properties .
