DLR Arts Office is pleased to announce that urban artist Decoy has created an exciting mural at Rockfield Park, Blackrock. Decoy uses abstract, colourful shapes in his compositions and approach to mural art – the intention behind his work is to impact public spaces that are often unused, in a positive way.

The artist is becoming widely known for creating large-scale murals that have a recognisable fun style, which he hopes will continue to engage the public and the imaginations of a broad range of communities.

Funded under the Per Cent for Art Scheme and managed by dlr Arts Office in collaboration with dlr Parks Department, this recently commissioned mural in Blackrock is titled ‘Flora and Fauna’ 2022. In Decoy’s own words:

“The artwork was inspired by the aspect of running water and nature in the park – but I wanted to also transform this structure into a multifunctional space. Not only inviting handball, but other sports and activities such as squash, hurling and ball practice with subtle targets and line markings. The natural harmonic features of the wall also lend well toperformance and I’m looking forward to seeing how people interact in new ways with this space.”

On behalf of dlr County Council, An Cathaoirleach Cllr Mary Hanafin congratulated the artist on this significant achievement:

“This striking mural is an impressive example of the rich artistic talent emerging in our County and the joy and vibrancy that art brings to our communities.”

Chief Executive Frank Curran said:

“We, at dlr County Council, proudly support the arts – Decoy has delivered a unique and engaging mural in one of the many inviting local parks in our County.”

Rockfield Park in Blackrock is open daily and ready to welcome visitors to enjoy and interact with this bright and contemporary work of mural art.
