Fifth Class pupils at  Our Lady Immaculate Senior National School, Darndale, wowed the BT Young Scientist Primary Fair, as well as meeting some prominent VIPs.

Led by teacher Mr Murphy, their project, ‘Why is Ireland Green?’ examined why grass in Ireland is greener than in other countries.

It also considered if Irish grass is better for animals to eat. The project was helped by animal nutrition, health and feed supplements specialists Alltech.

A school spokesperson said: “It was wonderful to see the school represented at such a prestigious event on the Irish educational calendar, and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the Fair!”

Further excitement for the pupils when their stand was visited by Táiniste Micheál Martin TD and Dublin MEP Barry Andrews.
