Following Coolmine Community School’s inability to recruit teachers in woodwork, metalwork and graphics, concerned parents and locals formed Coolmine Community School Parents Action Group.

Having hosted a very successful meeting on November 14, the group will be hosting another online meeting tomorrow evening with guest speakers and experts in the education sector addressing the issue which has reached national crisis point, but especially so in Dublin county where exorbitant accommodation costs are deterring teachers from accepting posts in the capital.

Parents speaking on behalf of Coolmine Community School PAG stated: “Over a decade of shortfall; lack of investment, two tier pay scale, precarity and now a chronic housing/accommodation crisis – which the Dublin Gazette has recently highlighted – sees this generation of students in classes without teachers.

“So now it is high time government Ministers, who have overseen this over the past decade, listen to constituents whom they purport to serve.

“We look forward to tomorrow’s meeting to discuss progress on demands set out by parents in conjunction with school management. We have invited all secondary school principals in Dublin 15, along with TUI & ASTI General secretaries and other concerned education stakeholders.”

Anyone is welcome to join the Zoom Meeting tomorrow night, Monday December 5 at 8pm.
