The community in Swords shocked by a stabbing incident last weekend is sadly now under a cloud of grief. On Thursday last, 19 year-old Marius Mamaliga was seriously injured in a stabbing incident at Brookdale Avenue in Swords.
Sadly he was pronounced dead on Sunday afternoon, February 26 last at Beaumont Hospital.
A local man was later charged with assault under section four of the Non-Fatal Offences Act and appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Saturday last, February 25.
Cllr Ann Graves (SF) stated the community was absolutely shocked by the tragic death.“Two families are devastated this week. It’s absolutely shocking and so sad for the wider community. As there is a case ongoing, I cannot comment further save to offer my sincere condolences to the heartbroken family grieving today.”
Meanwhile Matthew Czujek, a close friend of the late Marius launched a GoFundMe page in support of his family to pay for the young man’s funeral.
“Marius was loved by everyone around him and meant a lot to his friends,” wrote Mathew on the GFM page. “I wanted to create this GoFundMe personally to support Marius and his family during these tough times and to give Marius the memorial he deserves.

“Marius and his family had been my neighbours and close friends for many years, I spent most of my childhood with him, walking to and from school together. I will forever be grateful for his kindness and friendship.”
Mathew stated all donations will be used to cover the cost of his funeral and to support his family with any other costs. Almost €19,000 has been raised by Tuesday last.
“Any donation is greatly appreciated, all donations will be sent directly to his parents.”
