Daisy Kelliher below deck

GLENAGEARY native Daisy Kelliher is set to make a splash as the newest crew member on Bravo’s hit reality series Below Deck.

The 33-year-old is the granddaughter of Eddie Kelliher who was once an Olympic sailor for Ireland so it’s no wonder she nabbed a seafaring role.

Daisy takes over the position of Chief Stew on board a 54-metre superyacht worth €20m which sails around the Adriatic sea in Croatia.

The series is available to stream here from March 2 and Daisy and the crew’s antics are predicted to make waves.

Daisy, along with her sibling Bonnie and her parents, spent her early years in France before moving to Antigua for a couple of years. The family then returned to Ireland.

She told Dublin Gazette: “I learned how to sail in Dún Laoghaire Yacht Club with my dad Des and grandad Eddie. He lived just down the road from us. Bonnie and I learnt first to dinghy sail and then we chartered small sailing boats for family holidays.

“I have special memories of holidaying in Baltimore, West Cork and in Croatia before it became so popular in the last few years. It was inevitable I was going to end up on the sea.

“Coincidentally, my sister Bonnie is a chef on a super yacht also – sailing is in our DNA. Most of our family are members of Dún Laoghaire YC. Sadly, grandad Eddie died three years ago but he was a big influence on all the family.”

Below Deck Chief Stew

So how did Daisy come to be Chief Steward on Parsifal III, the oceanic stage for Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht?

“When Covid-19 struck last year,” said Daisy, “I was let go from my role as Chief Stew on another super yacht in Asia. Friends kept texting to say, ‘They’re recruiting for the show, you should do it’. And you know, what had I to lose? I was back in Ireland and bored in lockdown.”

The intrepid sailor applied and was successfully recruited. In July 2020 she joined the film and production crew in Croatia season two filming.

She said of her duties: “Primarily, I’m looking after the guests, and managing the interior team. It’s a small but dedicated and experienced team, and it’s my job to ensure the guests get whatever they want on this super luxury yacht, however over the top it may seem!”

Captain Glenn Shephard puts his trust in this season’s all-new crew as they sail along the idyllic Adriatic coast to provide an unforgettable, luxurious experience for the guests.

Joining him are chef Natasha De Bourg, chief engineer Colin Macrae, first mate Gary King, second stew Dani Soares, third stew Alli Dore and deckhands Sydney Zaruba and Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux.

Turbulent seas

Producers hint that sparks may fly between Daisy and chef Natasha.

“We have different views on things,” admitted Daisy. “There are lots of arguments between various members of staff.  We get tired, tensions run high, it’s a long season so it’s natural for people to argue. Plus, we have to keep the guests happy so it can be difficult at times.”

As for a second series: “Can’t answer right now, but we shall see. I certainly loved this experience. We worked long hours but it is an intense work environment. My focus was more on my work, attending to the guests, and honestly, I just forgot about the cameras after a while.

“It was great to be employed during lockdown and the production team went to great lengths to keep the environment safe for staff crew and guests, a lot of testing and following protocol during filming with no virus outbreaks at all.”

Daisy is currently on yet another luxury yacht working in the Caribbean.

“It’s full on and I will probably be here till March this year. Then I will head back to Europe – unless I get another call back to go Below Deck. I’ve made friendships with members of the crew and I hope we cross paths again. It was all positive from this experience”.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 is available from hayu in Ireland and the UK from March 2.
