Having given so much joy during the lock-down years of Covid-19, Massey Bros funeral directors proudly present a charity concert, ‘A Time to Hope’on Sunday next, May 7 at 7pm at St Bernadette’s Church in Crumlin.

Following on from its epic performance at the 3Arena in December, Arabella Voices choir, accompanied by a full orchestra, will perform at this very special evening of uplifting music.

The programme will range from classical to stage and screen, and will feature performances from amazing soloists and musicians, under the direction of the choir’s musical director, Tallaght man Damian Gallagher.

Now an established professional choir, the choir retains a charitable ethos at its heart. During the pandemic, it sang outdoors at various nursing homes in Dublin. This was an especially rewarding project for the choir and brought joy to many residents and care staff during those difficult times.

“We are delighted to support this concert, which will raise money for St Bernadette’s Church’s heating fund,” says Susan Guinan, MD of Massey Bros.

“It will be a very joyful, uplifting occasion and I know from attending previous choir performances that the audience is in for a very special treat.”

Originally known as the Friends of Hope Choir, the choir was founded in 2010 by two colleagues from Massey Bros. as a way of celebrating the joy of music and raising money for local families in need. It was renamed Arabella Voices and has grown in both size and strength under Damian Gallagher, who is a member of An Garda Siochána’s Garda Band and is also a renowned composer and orchestrator.

Thanks to the excellence of its performances, Arabella Voices is in high demand for performances at music festivals, recordings, TV performances and concerts. It was hired by Disney to launch the Irish premiere of The Lion Kingmusical in Dublin, and performed with celebrated Slovakian violinist, Vladimir Jablokov, at the 3Arena in December in front of an audience of 6,000 people.

It also performed a sell-out performance of the première performance of Damian’s Irish suite, ALANú, at the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

“We have planned a beautiful and uplifting programme that will never be forgotten by those who attend the concert at St Bernadette’s Church,” says Damian (above). “The choir and orchestra are currently in full rehearsal and there will be plenty of surprises on the night that will thrill our audience. We are very grateful to Massey Bros. for their unwavering support, which allows us the opportunity to both flourish professionally while giving back to the community.”

And Damian’s reputation as a composer, conductor and as musical director of Arabella Voices. The Dublin based musician is increasingly in demand as a composer and arranger, both at home and abroad. His compositions and orchestrations have been performed on both television and radio.

He has orchestrated for the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and many freelance orchestras, along with publishing two books of his own compositions, which received outstanding critical acclaim in the US. In 2015, Damian conducted a sell-out concert in the National Concert Hall, where his Irish suite ALANú was premièred – this was later featured within a documentary about his work on RTÉ.

Damian honoured to have been chosen to orchestrate the music for the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park when Pope Francis visited Ireland in 2018. He is currently working on a large-scale musical theatre production, and visits Los Angeles frequently to pursue his passion for composition.
