Saturday saw the Skerries Frosties host their 13th Blue Bar Frostie Freezer Day.

Despite the Baltic conditions and freezing temperatures, at least 20 brave souls entered the sea, wearing only togs! They still had to negotiate frozen seaweed and frost on the run in to the icy water for this unique Le Mans type midwinter sea swim.

Gráinne Murphy handed over the trophy to another youthful winner in Fionnán O’Sullivan who was closely followed by Neil MCabe, aka ‘Nemo’, and Jackie O’Connor claiming third.

First eight finishers went home with prizes thanks to the generosity of Kevin Earley of the Gladstone Inn. Participants and supporters then retired to the Lobster Room in the Blue Bar where Lisa and John Nealon sponsored mulled wine and mince pies – and most importantly, heat!!

Skerries Frosties paid tribute to their first timers Pat Loughman, Pat Dowling, Tom Reavley and Declan Dunne, plus all the regular competitors who braved the waters on Saturday last.

“As always, help was greatly appreciated from Gill and Geoff recording the finishers, James Weakley and PK for Sherpa duties and our own Con, the official starter. Currachai na Sceirí popped out to have a look too so thanks Shane and JOC! And of course, a big shout out to Pat Brown for everything!” wrote Skerries Frosties on social media.
