While we weren’t afforded the traditional fashion week affairs in 2020, that doesn’t mean that the collections on offer for Spring/Summer 2021 are any less showstopping.
Designers set the trend for the upcoming season, and what’s seen on the (virtual) catwalks will most definitely be replicated on the high street in the coming weeks and months once stores reopen.
This season, as we transition from winter into spring, there’s a handful of key trends that we are sure to see replicated on screen in Zoom meetings, out on our weekly shop and beyond into the early months of 2021.
Three of those trends are wearable mainstays that you may already even have in your wardrobe – bright punches of Red, a luxe Leather edge, and free flowing 70s style denim.
Trends that have stood the test of time and have been fashion favourites before, that you may even be able to find shopping sustainably through the likes of Studio Minti and Dublin Vintage Factory online, in addition to local charity shops once they reopen.
Red: There’s something about the colour red that’s endlessly captivating. Known as the colour of passion, love, adventure and energy, this powerful shade featured heavily amongst SS21 collections, including at Valentino and Fendi.
Allow the red to pack a punch while keeping the rest of the look toned tone and pared back.

Leather Luxe: A returning favourite from other seasons in recent years, leather returns in all shapes and sizes for SS21, from poufed sleeves to skirts and cinched jackets, leather (and faux-leather!) make a welcome return to add a distinct edge to any outfit.
Altuzarra and Paco Rabanne were just two designers that featured the classic black leather in an array of looks this season.
Leather can be teamed with anything to add a new level to basic styles, from a leather jacket with jeans and a tshirt to leather trousers with turtleneck jumpers.
Flowy denim: Gone are the days of tight fitting jeans – for now – with wide legged jeans and baggier silhouettes returning for SS21.
Think flare style jeans, teamed with a high waist, for ultimate comfort and maximum style.
Chloé and Balenciaga both featured the style on their runways, showing that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for fashion, making this style one of the perfect trends for transitioning away from loungewear and our at-home comfies when it’s time to return to the office.
That being said, they’re perfect to dress up, too – match with the aforementioned red and leather for a look that really is on trend this season!
