The classic Gershwin Show Crazy For You was brought to the Bord Gais by The Watermill Theatre. The set was very functional and aesthetically pleasing. We were watching the old Gaiety Theatre in Deadrock, Nevada.
The banks are about to foreclose when New Yorker Bobby Child arrives to seal the deal but ends up falling for Polly Baker instead! His plan to save the theatre ensues! This was an energetic production with an incredibly talented cast who doubled up as the orchestra! Costumes were beautiful, very bright and colourful and some lovely matching shoes. Characters were well cast, Charlotte Wakefield has a beautiful voice and was very controlled, singing both quietly and belting it out. Caroline Flack played the bossy Irene, very well.
Comedy was well acted by both Tom Chambers (Bobby) and Neil Ditt (Zangler); the double up drunken scene was very well choreographed and rehearsed. I did miss the big chorus sound that is synonymous with the old classic shows due to the small cast but nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed my evening.
Crazy for you runs until Sat 23rd September. Tickets available from Bord Gais Theatre Box Office +353 (1) 677 7999
