Brid Corr and staff at Bambi’s Childcare in Clondalkin are doing their best to support bored tots and parents under pandemic pressure!
Founded in 1986 and located at Greenpark Shopping Centre, proprietor Brid knows how much three and four-year-olds will be missing their friends and stimulating environment of the creche.
Along with staff members Flor, Michelle, Tina and Treasa, they decided to get busy and provide play packs for children attending the facility. But recently, they’ve decided to extend that out to the wider community.
Brid told Dublin Gazette: “It was pretty traumatic last year when we had to close. Young children didn’t understand what was happening. We sent them activity packs to keep them busy.
“Bambi’s is not funded for arts and crafts so I couldn’t keep it going indefinitely. Then we reopened in September but sadly, closed again at Christmas.
“This time, it seemed even more stressful. There are parents coping with three and four children at home, including a pre-schooler. It’s so tough for everyone.
“Bambi’s staff send out videos to our children. For example, themes include a keep fit routine to do indoors; another was based on locating colour objects around the house. They were given little jobs/tasks around the house to do and they send us photos of themselves completing the tasks.”
Packs include puzzles, paper to draw on, Bambi’s Bingo and stickers. The team now hope to expand to the wider Clondalkin area – and have set up an online fund.
Brid said: “Aside from financial donations, we are appealing to local companies, factories, shops and suppliers for craft materials, small toys, puzzles, books, paints, crayons and colouring pencils.”
