Wearing SPF should be part of your daily routine, even here in Ireland. Our skin needs year-round protection from the sun’s harmful rays and even more so in summer.
Protect your skin this summer and get into the habit of using SPF every day and your skin will thank you.
This May marks Skin Cancer Awareness Month and Pamela Hamilton, skincare advisor from millies.ie said: “It is so important we wear SPF all year round. Yes even in Ireland! Your face and body are exposed to UV radiation every day through clouds, rain, glass, sun or snow so going unprotected on an overcast day can lead to as much damage as to a sunny day.
Everyone, including men and children over the age of 6 months, should be wearing sun protection on exposed skin. Generally day to day, this will be our face, neck and hands. These in turn are the areas we see ageing start first.”
Pamela added: “Not only is SPF the most important part of our skincare regime, but according to The Skin Cancer Foundation SPF can also reduce the risk of melanoma by 50%. It’s important to remember that not all sunscreens protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Make sure your SPF is labelled Broad Spectrum.”
There is something for everyone from oily skin to sensitive skin. Most SPF’s contain specific ingredients to help with individual skin concerns. You just need to do a little research to find your perfect formula and then you are protected all summer long – and beyond!
