Local Matters

Local Matters

Dublin Gazette Newspapers is committed to supporting local communities – it’s the very essence of what we do.

We believe reporting local news, features, politics, sport, social events and most of all, business, is the key to a thriving local community. Everyone in the community can contribute.

Dublin Gazette Newspapers  believes that spending money in local shops is more important than ever. So, in recent months, we have been championing this cause to great effect, and with great support from local businesses.

What we are championing, in two simple words, is to Shop Local. Because Local Matters.

By doing this, we can all support local enterprise, which plays a far greater role in our quality of life than we might imagine.

Just consider this:

  • 56% of people say they would spend all, or most, of their time, within 5 miles of their homes
  • 60% say that they would spend all, or most, of their time within 10 miles of their home

And now consider this:

  • 52% stated that they would spend all, or most, of their money within 5 miles of their homes
  • 59% said that they would spend all or most of their money within 10 miles of their home

These figures demonstrate that this ethos of shopping locally is already imbedded in our subconscious.

By shopping locally, we are all doing our part to maintain our vibrant communities, which are striving to succeed in these challenging times.

The commercial rates that even the smallest of local businesses pays, goes directly to local councils. Without these rates, the quality of public amenities – from parks and playgrounds, to sports facilities and community groups – would simply not be of the standard we enjoy.

We want more than ever to make people aware of the overwhelming benefits to your local community of supporting local businesses and shopping local.

LOCAL BUSINESSES: If you have Local Matters you’d like us to tell all of Dublin about, post a message on our wall at Facebook or send a message on Twitter and we’ll pass it on!
